Johns Manville launches new Engineered Glass Fibers Products for thermoplastic reinforcements
June 1st, 2011Johns Manville (JM) launched recently a host of new ThermoFlow® and StarRov® LFTPlus products for glass reinforcements of engineered thermoplastics with a strong emphasis on improved property performance and increased productivity for compounders.
StarRov® 490 LFTPlus Roving continues JM’s innovation in long fiber thermoplastics (LFT). Through the use of unique JM sizing chemistry, we can reduce the odor impact of polypropylene LFT compounds with new StarRov® 490 LFTPlus. According to VDA270 odor analysis, odor is reduced by 0.5 to 1 point while still offering premium impact and strength performance. This new offering will further boost the use of polypropylene in critical interior automotive components.
ESPRIT Project – Latest News
November 12th, 2010
AVK/EATC attendance at the ESPRIT meeting Q8 at NetComposites in Chesterfield, UK 28th-29th September 2010
During this meeting the results of the last quarter’s work has been presented by the partners. There are variations on Self Reinforced Polyolefins (srPO), Self Reinforced Nylons (srPA) and Self Reinforced Polyesters (srPet) and some processing trials have been carried out in order to qualify the material to the specific processes such as injection moulding, compression moulding and extrusion. Since these materials are very critical to heating, heating by microwave, induction and other heating sources has been investigated and processing parameters defined.
(Technical Bulletin ESPRIT Oct 2010)
The next steps for 2011 will be the applications of the materials to case studies. Here the members of the EATC group can participate with their know how, experience and market overview.
A summary of the meeting results will be given at the next EATC meeting in Frankfurt, AVK office, 9th December 2010 by Dr. Egon Moos, Röchling Automotive.
BASF – New member of EATC
October 31st, 2010We welcome BASF as the newest member of EATC.
At the same time, BASF enters the market for high-performance polyamides with long glass fiber reinforcement. At the K 2010, the company will be presenting its first products from the Ultramid® Structure family with this special reinforcement.
This new BASF product group represents a considerable increase in performance and is targeted at metal replacement since Ultramid® Structure offers new opportunities when even highly optimized short glass fiber-reinforced products have reached their limits. The company is starting with a basic assortment of PA 6 and PA 66 grades with long glass fiber contents between 40 and 60 percent.
EATC: Speeches at the next AVK-Conference
June 30th, 2010As in the last year the EATC will have an own session at the next AVK-Conference. The session includes 6 speeches and will be moderated by Mr. Jochen Reichhold (Faurecia Innenraum Systeme GmbH), chairman of the EATC .
The AVK-Conference will take place from the 13-14 September 2010 in Essen (in conjunction with the Trade Fairs COMPOSITES EUROPE + ALUMINIUM 2010)

ESPRIT Project – Next Generation Self Reinforced Plastics
April 19th, 2010The ESPRIT project, funded by the EC FP7 programme, started in 2008 and is a three and a half year project which aims to take SRP technology to a new level by modifying the fibre and matrix and by radically improving the processing methods.
The aim is to develop production-ready technology utilising advanced selective melting processes, allowing the materials to be flow-moulded without affecting the reinforcing fibre properties.
